“The Carnivals of Korça” in National Theater

“The Carnivals of Korça” Directed by Erion Isai Return to the National Theater for Four Consecutive Nights!

Nikollaq and Olimbi Jorganxhi, powerful merchants in Korça, are searching for a husband for their 36-year-old daughter, Afroditi. However, the marriage faces obstacles in selecting a suitable candidate due to Olimbi’s uncompromising desire to include a piano in her daughter’s dowry.

This revival of “The Carnivals of Korça” takes a new approach—depicting a vicious cycle of bullying, social, visual, virtual, societal, and economic depression. The carnival serves as a reflection of a society that takes the shape of whatever container it is poured into. In this story, the “blows” of family, economic, and social-class bullying collide, creating the farce of comedy, and in our case, a musical as well.
